Ultra Mega Power Projects- The govt. has decided to set up ten UMPPS on PPP basis in a fast track manner. The objective is to create 40000 MW capacity during the Eleventh Five Year Plan. Power Finance Corporation is the model agency for Sanctioning UMPPs. Of these; Mundra (GJ) – Girye (MH) Tadri (KT) – Krishnapatanam (AP), Cheyyar and Marakkanam (both TN) are coastal Projects that will rely on imported coal. The other four; Sasan (MP), Akaltara (Chhathisgarh) Tilaiga (Jharkhand) and Jharsuguda (Orssa) are coal pit-bed Projects located near mines.
