Pradhan Mantri Swsthya Suraksha Yojana – the PMSSY was launched in March 2006 with the objective of correcting regional imbalances in the availability of affordable and reliable tertiary health care services and to also augment facilities for quality medical education in the country. The PMSSY has two components- setting up of six AIIMS like institutions and upgradation of 13 existing government medical college institutions.
